Moving away from gasoline and diesel fueled vehicles is critical to carbon neutrality.  And while individual passenger electric vehicles (EVs) are readily available, very little investment has been made in the “high occupancy vehicle” (HOV) market to move to electric vehicles.  The reason?  Primarily cost, availability and access to infrastructure charging stations.  HOV EVs are becoming more available with critical investments and dedication.  New EV buses are a great solution.

However, it's important to consider “repowering” existing buses from diesel & gas to electric. This technology exists today. And a repowered electric bus is about half the cost of a new electric bus, putting repower as an option within reach of many municipalities, school districts and businesses whose financial resources are badly strained. This is a critical technology breakthrough, because instead of a traditional engine repower (i.e. diesel to diesel), technology now exists to replace the entire diesel engine apparatus and power structure with batteries!
